Thoughts on: Obtaining compassion

Compassion is a skill to develop. It’s not that easy.

Why? Here are some reasons:

  • We have to be aware to catch when people react different than us to experiences in life.
  • Sometimes we need knowledge as to how it feels what they’re feeling.

The first one is difficult because it requires constant awareness. To be constantly aware of others we need to stop being the center of the universe to ourselves. Easier for some, more complicated for others.

The second one demands the most out of us. I feel that only once we’ve experienced it can we know how a certain situation feels to others. While not necessary, this last one can be a key drive for compassion. And this could be the reason why compassion is sometimes difficult to find: almost everyone reacts differently to things.

A good way of cultivating compassion is to start with the people that react to experiences in a similar way to how you do.

Anyway, these were my thoughts on the matter, what do you think? Let me know!

The comic for this thought is here!
