If you’re new to the “creative field” this might sound illogical. On the other hand if you aren’t new, you’ve probably heard this a number of times.

Why would limiting ourselves make us more creative?

When I think of creativity I think of more than just the act of creating. I think of doing something that, while it may not be new to the world, is new to you. It’s something that you haven’t done. To this another component must be added: it came from yourself, you’re not just replicating something you saw/heard online. You want it to be smart, to have some uniqueness.

It’s easy to make something when you have no limitations (unless of course, you get overwhelmed with the sheer amount of options). Just throw a bunch of things together, some will stick and you’ve made something. But to be truly creative I think limits are necessary. Limiting your options forces you to know said options better. It forces you to understand their relationships even more deeply.

True creativity, requires limits. It also requires knowledge obtained from hours spent at your craft.

Anyway, These are some of my thoughts on creativity. What do you think about this? Let me know!

The comic for this thought is here!
