For the record, I stopped using these questions (~12 years ago) for this reason—I didn’t want to provoke fearful responses in candidates any more. One of the criteria I’ve used since is whether a question or test helps a candidate show their best work. If their best work excites you, you can dig into their weaknesses or flaws later; but testing for both at once suppresses the heights they can reach in demonstrating their strengths in an interview.
