This is a fine example of what white people need to stop doing. He gives a great metaphor for a shared experience as well as reaching out for empathy and understand and you’re basically saying that his experience is not based in reality. Just consider how infuriating it is to constantly be told this. You’re not even trying to meet him halfway, just dismissing his experience as invalid because you can’t relate.
