Excellent points. For a while students at my alma matter (Marist College) would complain that they had to take a general ethics course when their major was IT/Business/Communications/etc. I was very happy when, during my sophomore year, the school created a curriculum that allowed students of different majors to take an Ethics course that applies to their major. Ethics in Technology, Ethics in Media, Ethics in World Studies, etc. course were all made available. What I also loved was that these courses were optional. If I were studying Information Technology but wanted to take the Ethics in Religion course to get that credit, I could have. This added so much value!
