Its one of those topics — like politics- that is very difficult for people from opposing sides to discuss without bringing emotion into play. Many of thepro gun control people have children, so this is a topic that drives them crazy because it seems so simple to solve. Those who don’t have children & do have guns see it as just as simple on the oppisite side. The truth lies somewhere in between. Not neccesarily more gun control laws, but better enforcement of those that exist. Not arming every teacher so the school feels like an armed encampment, but allowing those who are willing & properly trained & who have a concealed carry liscense already to carry on school property & outings. Would it save avery child? No, because the teachers can’t be everywhere at once. But if I had a child in school, I would much prefer my teacher have some option to confront a gunman than putting their body between the child & the shooter. I lean toward having a universal background check, because what we have right now is overwhelmed. California had a 10 day waiting period on handguns. But the number of people applying to buy one has gone up and up and the background checkers can’t keep up with the demand, so people who should be red flagged fall through the cracks. There are a lot of steps we can take that won’t tread on law abiding gun owners but MAY stop mass shootings. It’s calming down the emotion in this oh so emotional topic that is difficult.
