Our World Cup prediction event is now over, and it’s time to crunch the data and give you some numbers. Here is a one-picture recap with the main numbers to check out before we dive deeper:

General Data

The World Cup event is Prosper’s biggest event so far, with a staggering 740 000 $PROS predicted on 98 different pools. 480 unique participants made 3362 unique predictions over the span of 23 competition days.

We can separate those numbers between 7 types of pools :

  • 26 Stats pools for all the matches, statistics pools like scorers, goal amount predictions, etc. These pools gathered 179 predictions for a volume of 14 542 PROS, with an average of 560 PROS per pool and 2423 PROS per day.
  • 48 Group phase pools totaling 204 966 PROS in 2612 predictions, or an average 4 270 PROS per group phase pool and 15 766 PROS per group phase days.
  • 8 ⅛ of finals pools, gathering 366 predictions for a volume of 149 201 PROS, or an average of 18 650 PROS per 1/8th match
  • 4 ¼ of finals pools on which 32 552 PROS were predicted with an average 8 138 PROS per pool
  • 2 ½ finals pools totaling 115 predictions and 62 984 PROS with an average of 31 650 PROS per ½ finals match
  • 2 finals pools, in which the final match alone has the highest pool volume of 59 220 PROS from 53 predictions.

On top of that, we tested two concepts of different pools: Speed pools and Crazy Pools. While we stopped Speed pools that were not attractive to users, Crazy pools were quite a success, with 212 619 PROS predicted in 8 pools (26 577 PROS per pool).

Pools data

We can also output some interesting data if we break numbers per pool:

  • Average volume per pool: 7 552 PROS
  • Average predictions per pool: 37
  • Highest volume in a pool: 59 220 PROS on the Final Match
  • Most predictions in a pool: 133 (Germany — Japan)
  • The highest final winning ratio in a pool: x42.11 for Saudi Arabia on Argentina — Saudi Arabia

Daily data

If we split numbers per day, we can identify that we had:

  • Average volume per day: 32 181 PROS
  • Average predictions per day: 159
  • Highest volume in a single day: 99 870 PROS on the Final day
  • Most predictions in a single day: 333 (24/11/2022 — Group phases)

Contest data

Our volume leaderboard contest lasted for the whole event and was the theatre of prediction battles.

In the end, our winner has predicted 80 000 PROS, winning $1000 or PROS; the top 5 is above 34 246 PROS ($500 of PROS per contestant), and the top 100 is set at 1 076 PROS, earning contestants $40 in PROS. The last rewarded position (200th) is set at 141 PROS.

Conclusion and Feedback

Overall, we are happy with how the event went, and we hope the same goes for people who predicted on our platform.

We did have a few harmless bugs and reported user issues. However, we did our best to improve the platform as the event progressed. We added lots of displayed information (volumes, predicted amounts), allowing users to predict on both sides, and tried to time our pools (despite complicated BC timers) so that users could predict on consecutive matches. And we also came up with additional formats, adding fun and crazy pools.

We will soon announce what is coming next for our social predictions. Still, we can already say that we’re willing to capitalize on this success to get it up and running daily while working on platform V2, implementing many new improvements and features.

We will now close the platform over the Holiday period and keep improving. In the meantime, we are very interested in our user’s feedback and would like to hear from them on this form:
