A year ago, I moved from Tokyo to Venice and started to work remotely. The growing adoption of remote work, along with the evolving nature of work itself, has not only allowed people like me to come live and work from Venice. It has also made it possible for visitors to extend their stay and immerse themselves longer in the city’s way of life. I believe there is a need to foster dialogue between these two groups of people but the city still lacks physical spaces to welcome such interactions. In this guide below, I have listed some of the best places to work in Venice, with the aim of bringing them greater visibility and ultimately promoting more social interactions and inspiration between residents and visitors.

In this article: Whether you live and work in Venice or are simply visiting, discover the finest locations in the city where you can comfortably sit with your laptop for a few hours.

⚠️ Note that some establishments listed below may prioritise serving food at lunchtime, for example. Therefore, it’s advisable to be mindful of this when choosing a workplace and plan accordingly!

1. Ca’ Pesaro Museum Cafe, Santa Croce, 2076, 30135 Venezia

The museum of Ca Pesaro sits in a Baroque palace along the Grand Canal. It hosts diverse collections of modern and contemporary art.

On the ground floor, you will find a very nice cafe with both indoor and outdoor seating options. It’s the perfect place to catch up on work, or even organise a meeting while enjoying the views on the Grand Canal.

2. COMBO, Campo dei Gesuiti, 4878, 30121 Venezia

Located in the beautifully restored ex-convent ‘dei Crociferi’, COMBO is not your average hostel. Opened in 2019, the space is truly unique and offers bedrooms but also a beautiful restaurant, a bar, conference spaces and regular events. COMBO is also an accommodation for some of the city’s numerous university students.

With its two cloisters, its co-working room and its terrace, it’s easy to find a comfortable spot to sit down and work for a couple of hours.

Sullaluna is a bookshop dedicated to illustrated books for all ages. It’s also a teahouse offering a small but highly-curated selection of organic food and beverages.

The owners, Rodolfo and Francesca, also regularly host festivals, conferences and musical events.

Do not miss the family’s very own wine, “Prosecco Lunatico”, cultivated in Refrontolo (Province of Treviso) following the natural cycles of the moon (certified organic).

This coffee roastery is the only one in the historic center of Venice and it has been there since 1930.

Their historic blend is called “Caffè Remèr”, a combination of eight different Arabica, selected and imported from different parts of the world.

6. Naranzaria, San Polo 130, 30125 Venezia

Naranzaria is located just next to Caffé Vergnano 1882 and offers a very similar configuration.

For centuries, Venice was a point of exchange and high influences between East and West. Rialto was the center of the city, where merchants and suppliers met. It was in the warehouse “Naranzaria” that citrus fruits were kept.

12. Illy, Giardini Reali, 30124 Venezia

This café is located just behind Piazza San Marco and installed in a historical neoclassical pavilion used as a Cafehaus during the Habsburg period. It was recently restored and now hosts Illy Café.

I like this place for its location and its charm, surrounded by the Royal Gardens of Venice. However, it can get crowded and loud. Choose the time & the day wisely!
