Tara, you present a good argument for impatience and for stopping what Bill McDonough called “driving slower towards the edge of the cliff.” The biophilia example is a good one — we need more of these types of examples to accompany the anti-establishment argument, or we just end up with dissolusioned ex-greenies who give up. As an animial trainer once said, you can’t just say “no,” you have to re-direct the behavior to something you want the animal to be doing. I’m inspired by the work of Dr. Antwi Akom http://iseeed.org/about/founding_partners/ in using crowd-sourcing among the poor to create sustainable solutions and by Project Drawdown http://www.drawdown.org/ that looks at social and technical innovations with co-benefits around sustainability.
