How I Read Over 100 Books a Year

I’ll finish the year with about 150 books read — here’s how!

As of mid-November 2022, I have read 131 books in 2022. I suspect that if I keep up my current reading pace, I will hit 150 books by the end of the year. This counts books that I read cover-to-cover, not books that I skimmed, abandoned, or only read partially.

I didn’t always read this much: back in the mid-2010s I was averaging closer to 15 books per year. What I had to do was to build a strategy to incorporate more reading into my life. This year’s reading isn’t a fluke, either— every year since 2019, when I started implementing these strategies, I have read at least 100 books.

I’m open to new genres

I started tracking my reading on Goodreads in 2012 when I was just 17, and obviously my reading tastes have changed a lot since then. While I used to read a lot of fantasy, I have found my tastes changing and I read a lot more nonfiction and classics now.

If you have been struggling to get into reading, try different genres of books than you’re used to. You may just find a new favorite genre that gets you back into reading.
