From the outside looking in, and as someone who has had friends fall into explicitly trans-antagonistic right wing groups, I think there are parallels with the communities that sprung up to surveil Christine Chandler, where “we’re exposing a bad person doing bad things” has become the fig leaf excuse for increasingly toxic stews of voyeurism, cherry picked targets & right wing politics that are now cited in connection with spree shooters (https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2019/03/kiwi-farms-website-refuses-to-help-police-in-christchurch-terror-case.html) and by the more far gone TERFs.
