2017 was the woman’s year
Celebrities, public figures, politicians, all joined the marches around the globe and raised their voices to show support to all the women out there. Soon enough, fashion decided to be part of it as well. But 2017 wasn’t the first year for clothing and political resistance.
Let’s go back to the 1920s, when Coco Chanel decided that the era of restrictive women’s clothing was over. Corsets were changed for simple lines and straight silhouettes, making a statement for the women of the 20s who were flapping away the Victorian restraints of those times.
At the beggining of this year, Maria Grazia Chiuri decided to join the revolution as well, creating a white, basic t-shirt as part of her first collection as the first female director for Dior.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s words were celebrated with what became a key piece of clothing of 2017: ‘We should all be feminists’. Celebrities like Natalie Portman, Rihanna and Jennifer Lawrence wore it while giving powerful speeches and celebrating the new women’s revolution that has stayed until now. The roaring era for women is back.
