Hi, Drew. Excellent piece. But I’m Brazilian and I have to say: yes, white people imagining a robbery at the hand of brown people “is something that does fly here…”. We deal with similar issues of racism and discrimination as the US does. But again, I am white and I am privileged. I have never experienced discrimination and I can say nothing about it. But I have friends and family that can confirm what I said. The reason this was actually thoroughly investigated was the fact that it is a high profile investigation. After all, Lochte is the “best swimmer in the US” or in the world… I really don`t know that much about it. And probably also because Rio’s pride was really hurt this time. But watch “Cidade de Deus” (I think it was translated as City of God), “Que horas ela volta?” (translated as “The Second Mother”) and “Tropa de Elite” (Elit Squad).
