UX Documentation is Dead
The murder of UX docs as we know it— here’s how to Resurrect UX Docs and Make Them Actually Useful.
The Crime Scene: A Mess of Notes and Post-Its
The clock reads 10:03 AM. The office is quiet, except for the soft sound of keyboards and the occasional murmur of the design team deep in discussion. But in the corner, the scene tells a different story — UX documentation is dead.
The victim? A once-beautiful, detailed, and lengthy UX documentation that tried to capture every detail of the design process. It had user journeys, personas, research, wireframes — everything, a dream.
But now? It’s just a pile of neglected post-its and scribbled notes.
Detective (me): “What happened here?”
Witness (yes, also me): “We didn’t have time to update it. We were moving too fast. By the time we got to it, the design had already changed.”
The Time of Death: A Fast-Paced Sprint
A long, long, time ago, the victim was last seen alive during an old sprint planning session — a full, elaborate document that was supposed to guide the team. It had every detail planned out, from assumptions to conclusions, user flows to wireframes. But as soon as the sprint kicked off, the victim was abandoned.
