I may write more at another time, but in short, I want to recognize the time and effort that the DS crew is putting into addressing many of these questions/concerns/challenges. The INCC, those involved since early last spring (or earlier), folks living in the house are all beautiful people, who take creating change and creating it in a just manner, very seriously.
I will be one of the first to tell you that there have been, and continue to be, significant issues around decision making, process, and inclusion and diversity within DS. However, knowing this crew of people quite well, I want to be clear that this group is trying incredibly hard to do important internal work & do organizing that breaks down systems of oppression.
Fight these systems, and recognizing how they permeate everything we do is fucking hard work. It takes time. It takes a lot of challenging conversations, disagreement, folks going their own ways, and work to build in a way that truly reflects a desire to take down racism, sexism, patriarchy, hetero/cis normativity, and capitalism.
I’m incredibly grateful that these conversations are happening, and that everyone is continuing to strive to be the best we can be. Additionally, I think it’s important to remember that we are all trying. We have many of the same goals, and have a shared experience of recognizing the urgency of all the crises we face. As Brendan said, we will go MUCH further together — and that means building trust, respect, and honest communication with one another.
