This is a very touching story. I think we all know someone just like Joe. I have tried for many years to help a family member, but it never lasts. This person always return to hiding out, doing the drugs/alcohol. I know Joe changed your life and gave you confidence and good times. It sounds like he was blessed to have you in his life, too. Sounds like you feel a bit of guilt since you lost ouch at the end. Joe chose that for whatever reason. Cherish your memories. May he rest in peace.
