What Will I Do In Nazi America?
When I was a student learning about World War II, I always came back to the same question: What would I have done if I lived in Nazi Germany?
Would I have joined the resistance? Would I have been outspoken against hatred and bigotry? Would I have protected others under attack to the best of my ability? Would I have been willing to put my life at risk for the sake of ending such terror?
The answers to the these questions were always a clear and resounding “yes.”
Well here we are years later and I’m asking myself the same questions, but now with an unexpected twist: What will I do in Nazi America?
Because let’s not fool ourselves, it’s happening. History is repeating itself, but this time on our own soil. The same country that once sent brave soldiers off to fight an evil words still cannot do justice to describe has now become the very battlefield it fought so hard to leave in the past.
Nazism is alive and well in the United States of America. Terrorism is alive and well in the United States of America. Racism is alive and well in the United States of America. Hatred, violence, ignorance, and fear. They are going unchecked and they are thriving.
We’ve seen what happens when the world stays silent. Which is why we must take a stand, for we cannot let this happen again. Not here, not anywhere. Knowledge of the past comes with a responsibility to ensure a better future.
So it’s time to ask yourself the question: What will I do?
