Mixpanel product analytics platform review

Analytics are one of the most important metrics of any application/service/product.

Recently, at keybin, we tried to get answers to those questions:

  • Which analytics tool should we use?
  • Which analytics tool is the best?

so we decided to use a wonderful tool called mixpanel.

PROS:

  • nice ui/ux on web
  • dashboard where you can add reports based on time ranges, you can filter data, view data in nice chart representations (bar, line, table)
  • analysis: Insights (Deeply analyse your users and their actions), Segmentation (Measure the actions that people take), Live view (View a live streaming feed of events, Formulas (Create formulas to understand ratios of events), Funnels (Pinpoint where and why users drop off), Retention (Identify if users come back over time), Signal (Identify actions that drive users to convert/retain)
  • users: Explore (Understand each user), Cohorts (Create groups of users to analyse across our reports), Predict (See which users are likely to convert)
  • take action: Campaign (Create and send a series of targeted messages), Messages (Re-engage customers with targeted messages), A/B testing (Experiment to find the optimal user experiences)
  • very easy JavaScript and Java integration
  • nice iOS client (tested on iPhone 6S) which also has push notifications on the events you configure
  • enough features even on their free plan (which fits perfectly our current needs)

BETWEEN PROS AND CONS:

  • it would be nice to have a sandbox environment where you cant test setup and configuration of events with properties without mixing dev/stage/test data with production data

CONS:

  • none yet. I will update here when I'll find some issues

Conclusion:

I strongly recommend mixpanel. You should review your current product analytics tool if you have one or start using one to have a much better overview of your product heartbeat — features provided successfully by mixpanel.
