A Guide for Surviving High School

High school is a scary time in a student’s life. If you’re a freshman entering high school you most likely feel inferior to all of the upperclassmen. You feel as if you have no shot at making new friends because people won’t like you or because you are different. Lucky for you, I wrote a guide on surviving and making the most out of your high school experience. I believe high school can be an amazing time in a young person’s life, even if the movies show otherwise.

Steps to lead a fulfilling high school career:

1. Meet as many people as you can

Step outside your circle of friends. Even if you are shy I urge you to interact with as many people as possible. I am an introvert by nature but talking to everyone in my classes during high school was the best thing I did in my time there.

2. Treat everyone with respect

Don’t make fun of people, don’t bully people, and don’t put people down. Luckily I was fortunate enough to go to a school where this hardly happened to anyone and it made for a much better high school experience. Treat everyone like they are your friend because someday they just might be.

3. Join clubs even if you aren’t interested in them

I was involved in many extracurricular activities during school and I regret none of them. Join clubs outside of your interests to meet an even larger variety of people.

4. Always say yes

Well — to a certain extent at least. High school is a time to experience life to its fullest. As cliché as it sounds it really is a time to find yourself. If you follow the steps above you will have a great group of friends to experience things with. Say yes to late nights, to making an album, or even to embarking on a small business venture.

5. Don’t stress too much

Of course there will be stressors in high school. The ACT/SAT, good grades, relationships, etc. Trust me, don’t worry about this stuff too much. Studying is important too of course but only to a certain extent. Don’t struggle on finding a career either, as you start discovering yourself it will come to you. Like anything else, it just takes time.

GOOD LUCK
