Pumpkin Spice Lattes

Mhm the originality of your choice of latte is very telling. Oh you are a teen-to-twentysomething girl? Is Fall also your favorite season? OMG- Do you like flannels, sweaters and the color of leaves? Let me guess, you heard the song Sweater Weather by The Neighborhood first right?
Alright. Straight up. No one is truly original. Stop blaming Pumpkin Spice Lattes for this. It is proven that most of your choices originate from someone else’s design. Just watch Miranda’s rant in Devil Wears Prada when Anne Hathaway insults the color blue. (Look it up, it’s a gem- promise) I get that the US of A’z obsession with fall and pumpkin flavors is a tad bit over the top, but no one should have to put the hashtag #noshame when buying a damn latte.
This brings me to my realtalk issue. Originality. Stop it. Stop it right now. No one is more original than another person. We are all humans. We are all individuals. Girls, guys, girlguys- it is okay to like mainstream things. It is okay to admit to liking a boy band or even snapbacks. By admitting to liking these things (including Miley Cyrus) shows your originality because you are expressing your true individualistic self.
I used to be real tight with this girl who only liked Usher, Akon and reality TV shows. I would go over to her house, drink sweet tea while talking about how hott (two Ts… I know) Justin Timberlake is/was/whatever. At the time I thought she was lame. I thought people would think I was lame for hanging out with her and liking those types of things. Her originality factor felt non-existent since everything in her room and life revolved around mainstream ideals. I’d like to write that one day I realized that, that’s what made her… her, and from then on I thought she was hella cool for being straight up about what she likes. But that would be lies on lies on lies. I did not step down from my snobby “I’m original” ways and lost a pretty decent friend (even though she repeated the word triflin’ every five seconds… but that’s another story).
My point is like what you want to like and stop judging others for liking what they like. It’s not cool, it’s hurtful.
Alright, end of realtalk. Now buy your Pumpkin Spiced drinks/muffins/yogurt and don’t feel ashamed.
Peace out. A-town down.
