Artist Residency in Castagno di Piteccio (Borgo Museo of Pistoia, Tuscany)
Castagno di Piteccio. A bus ride, one flight, and a few train rides away.
When I arrived, I didn’t know what to expect. Away from the city, the environment wasn’t something I was used to, and the whole experience was completely new to me.
One thing I remember is having a simple plan: explore, meet with locals and other artists, work on my project. That’s it.
But it couldn’t be further from what I’ve experienced.
If I could go back in time, I’d give myself a little advice:
Relax and forget “only work, no fun” attitude. This place deserves the best of you.
Because this place is magical.
Amazing, unbelievably friendly people that opened their homes, welcoming us with kindness and love (and delicious food).
I’ve never experienced being in such a loving, supporting, creative community. I was inspired to create, to discuss various topics, to explore different concepts, to learn new things (hello pasta making).
My Italian was almost non-existent, so I couldn’t communicate as I would if I’m fluent. But despite the language barrier, I felt the support and love they shared with me; and I tried to show gratitude and love for them too.
I’m so grateful and honored to had the opportunity to experience this artist residency.
Leaving artwork in Castagno, for its open-air museum and the people there, is the least I can do to say big “THANK YOU”.
Thank you, people in Castagno, for your kindness, for sharing with us your best wine, food, and stories.
Thank you for making me feel like home.
I can’t wait to come back.
Ci vediamo a settembre!
