Megahn Trainor, you failed this feminism

“Dear future husband” :

Take me on a date (Yeah she tells right what she wants)
I deserve it, babe (yes you do!)
And don’t forget the flowers every anniversary
‘Cause if you’ll treat me right (Oohh…)
I’ll be the perfect wife (Please don’t)
Buying groceries (Come on ! Are you bargaining flowers for what society expect a good wife to be ?)
Buy-buying what you need

After every fight
Just apologize
And maybe then I’ll let you try and rock my body right (If you’re nice then maybe you’ll get your treat !)

“All About that bass” :

Yeah, it’s pretty clear, I ain’t no size two (A proud woman !)
But I can shake it, shake it
Like I’m supposed to do (Please, you’re not supposed to do anything)

That is an example of what I call surface feminism. At first, I had a little hope that she could maybe have some songs that were sending another message. She kind of does. Her songs seems to talk about empowerment and loving who you are. But as so many other books, songs or women that claim to be feminist, Meghan Trainor stayed on the surface of what deserves to be really tought and then, got it all wrong.
