Protect your energy

Do you know the things that are gonna take energy away from you? Do you know the things that are gonna give you energy? If you don’t, then write down everything that happens to you from the time that you wake up, to the time that you go to sleep.

List it one by one. As you’re living your day pay attention to yourself. What’s giving you energy? What’s taking it away? List everything down, and as you go through your day write a plus (+) or a minus (-) next to the activity. If you can, write a quick note. What about this is giving you energy? What about this is taking it away?

read (+)

eat breakfast (+)

shower (+)

get dressed (-) * too many choices

drive to work (-) *traffic

interact with coworkers (-) * too many interruptions

At the end of the night look at your list. What gave you energy? What took it away? If there are any notes pay attention to them, so that when you move forward you can be more conscious. Start to build up the sustainable sources that grow your life. Surround yourself with the things that keep you energized.
