Here is the most interesing stuff I’ve got from the internet in the year two thousand and thirteen, wish I had more time to read new books and articles but I’ve been busy; this a list I’ve been keeping in a .txt file for the last few months. Hope you like these and more importantly, I hope these change you a bit.

It don’t gitmo better than this
Really sad article from one of my favorite contemporary artist, Molly Crabapple, she went to Guantanamo Bay Military Base and what she saw there reminds us that the horror is far from over.

“House of Cards” head writer Beau Willimon tells Salon how he chose his antihero’s partisan affiliation. Democrats are the same.

How Memes Are Orchestrated by the Man
Memes are the new music videos(in the sense that they are created with only one objective in mind, to sell other stuff). Corporations had more to to with the popularity of the Harlem Shake than you or I did.

Linux is the Future of Gaming — Gabe Newell
Valve is looking at its future, Steam is going to be a even more powerful platform, and it could be thanks to linux. I hope they challenge the current way consoles work. This is going to be great for developers and users.

Linus Torvalds defends his right to shame Linux kernel developers
Sometimes Torvalds behaves like a douche, but I get why — I don’t condone his behavior, but I get his critique of politeness and what Managament by Perkele is.

All Can Be Lost: The Risk of Putting Our Knowledge in the Hands of Machines
Probably one of the best articles I’ve ever read. So many interesting topics, we should take some time to discuss theses issues.

Automating software engineering.
Workplace politics, implications. Teaching new students high-level languages is great to get them started, but for for true systems-building one needs to understand the whole stack.

A good look to the current state of the web, who own and read the old blogs, how we connect to others has changed, but the needs and reasons are the same.

Adrianne Jeffries on the Verge
Adrianne Jeffries has written a lot of great article this year on The Verge (one of my favorite sites ever.) but here’s my favorite one: “How to steal Bitcoins in tree easy steps”:

There are plenty of great articles and videos on The Verge, I strongly recommend it.

Listen to These:
“Picture Show” — This American Life, Episode #493
This is one of the best shows in the history, and this is one of the best episodes I’ve ever listened to. This episode is about Israeli soldiers taking snapshots of Palestinian families in the middle of the night, the Boston bombings and Reddit, and a great story about the painter Schandra Singh; a letter, a father and his boy with autism. This is why This American Life is so cool, it brings stories that matter.

Watch These:
Žižek on Vice
Tariq Ali and Oliver Stone
Untold History of the United States.
Thomas Knoll on Photoshop
Amazing interview, the past, present, and future of Photoshop. (sorry for the missing embedded clip)
Later in the video, Thomas talks about the controversy surrounding Adobe’s Creative Cloud and the solution he proposed for photographers.
Rusell Brand and GQ Awards! on The Guardian
Russell writes about what happened on the GQ awards, maybe he is not always right, but this last year he spoke about some important issues no one talks about. There’ are plenty of interviews he has done this last year, all pretty amazing. By the way, here’s the clip:
Four Tet Mini Documentary
Kieran Hebden talks about his process of creating music, his inspirations, and how his personal life influences his work. Also, he released some great stuff this year (both his new record “Beautiful Rewind” and some old unreleased songs on sendspace).
Madlib Rare Interview
Madlib interviews are as rare as MF DOOMs interviews. He talks about crate digging (he owns four tons of records), J Dilla, Jazz . I wish it was longer.
Crate Diggers
This year FUSE kept making these amazing minidocs featuring djs and producers. My favorites: J Dilla and The Gaslamp Killer:
The Gaslamp Killer gives us a huge list of awesome albums. Check them out.
My Favorite Tweets of the year
To me, a good tweet me must be inspiring, funny, or useful. So these are some great examples:
