Sharp Tools Are Better Tools

Every Christmas I hijack my mom’s knives and sharpen them as a present. I do this for other folks, too. I use the Lansky system, to which I add a pocket magnifying glass and a Sharpie marker. I use the marker so I can see where I’m cutting.

Below I’m using the fine stone on a Monarch broadhead, you can see the clean line developing where material is removed.

The Lansky is good for smaller blades, but if it’s over 6" or so, then the edge angle changes as you work the ends, and so you end up sharpening the blade twice.

If you’re local, drop off you favorite dull knife and let me at it. If I arrive at your house with my red box… break them all out, it must be Xmas!
