With the unique advantage of having both high-performance CPU and GPU, AMD has almost dominated the console market. Sony, Microsoft’s contemporary and next-generation consoles will use the AMD solution, and many portable gaming consoles have also gone to the AMD camp, such as the Smach Z, GPD Win series.

GPD company is headquartered in Hong Kong, its portable devices product line is very rich, including the general purpose Pocket series, Windows game optimized Win series, Android game optimized XD series, ths GPD Win 2 launched last year is very popular, the new generation of Win Max is also being developed.

GPD Win 2

Win Max originally planned to be called Win 2 Max, but eventually removed the middle “2” to separate it from Win 2 which previously used the Intel Core m3–7Y30 processor. Because this time GPD uses AMD’s embedded Ryzen V1000 processor, perhaps the same model as the Smach Z, the Ryzen V1605B. The processor is based on Zen, Vega architecture, 4 cores and 8 threads, CPU clocked at 2.0–3.6GHz, 512 stream processors, frequency 1.1GHz, thermal design power consumption 15W, adjustable range 12–25W (even open to 54W) ), this is much better than the ultra-low power m3–7Y30 (HD615). The TDP for the Ryzen V1605B is 12–25 W, so there will be plenty of power for the diminutive Win Max handheld gaming PC.

Recently, AMD also released the embedded Ryzen R1000 series, which is also the Zen and Vega architecture, but reduced to dual-core four-thread, 192 stream processors, and thermal design power consumption of 12–25W.

The leaked spy photos also show that Win Max is also equipped with a microSD card reader, Intel Wi-Fi wireless network card (M.2), HDMI interface, two USB Type-A, a USB Type-C, a headphone jack (suspected ), while the memory is not visible, it seems to be on the other side of the motherboard.

This is also consistent with the interface shown in the previously leaked drawing.

The Win series of previous 2 generations are 5.5 inch, 6-inch screen, Win Max may be bigger and the resolution is expected to increase to 1280×800. Win Max will be released later this year, but the exact time and price are not known.

In fact, GPD will be very busy next, and there are many new products on the roadmap:

  • A new product will be released around April 23, possibly an upgraded version of GPD Pocket.
    - The GPD MicroPC is expected to ship next month with 8GB of memory, double the original plan.
    - GPD Win 3 will see you next year.
    - Considering a device like the Nintendo Switch, but haven’t decided yet.

In addition, another Chinese manufacturer is also interested in entering this handheld gaming PC market: CHUWI is a tech manufacturer located in Shenzhen, China, focus on designs, develops, and sells high quality of tablets, laptops, and intelligent home appliances.

Chuwi plans to release their new handheld gaming PC next month, previously they have released game PC products such as Chuwi HiGame, and others flagship model sunch as Chuwi Hi9 Air / Hi9 Plus, Gbox Mini PC for audio and video entertainment; and utrabook laptop Chuwi LapBook Pro / Chuwi LapBook Air for daily office use.

The exact product information and price of this Chuwi handheld gaming PC are not known, let us wait and see what surprises will be brought to us!
