10 Not So Basic Items That You Need for Festival Season

Festival fashion has, to put it delicately, become so predictable. From flower crowns to fringe and lace tops, we’ve seen it all. And, quite frankly, we’re sort of sick of it. Here are some items that will help you stand out from a crowd of Coachella cliches.

Leave your flowy maxi dress at home this year. Think more sleek and minimal and less “Summer of Love”. Even better if it’s silky and mid length like this one from Reformation(which also happens to be eco-friendly)!

Reformation, $198

Chokers have dominated the necklace game the past year. From boho pieces to bedazzled ones, they will surely be everywhere during this years festival circuit. If you’re looking for a different jewelry trend, try dangling earrings in bright colors!

Vanessa Mooney, $42

Are you over the boho lace-up sandals and suede booties that litter the green grass of festival grounds? We know we are. Dare to be different in a metallic bootie instead! Bonus points for fun cutouts, too!

Jeffrey Campbell, $175

While you’re packing, make sure to NOT bring that floral maxi skirt that just about everyone has. Instead, pack a knee length tulle skirt, like this one from NastyGal, complete with a lace-up waist!

Nastygal.com, $36

If you think fanny packs are only for dads at Disneyland, think again! Wear it around your waist or wear it slung over your shoulder to carry your phone and sunnies. Tip: Unlikely textures and colors will help make it less “dad at disneyland”.

Free People, $30

Denim cutoffs are a classic item, no doubt, but they have in recent years become mundane, especially for festival fashion. To keep with the athleisure trend, opt for a sporty-type short. If you want to make a big impact, pair it with a matching jacket!

Aritzia, Shorts $35, Jakcet $85

Glitter hair and space buns are like so last festival season. This year, try these hair jewels from Free People for a more subtle look and a much easier clean up!

freepeople.com, $14

Don’t want to look like a clone in your Ray-Ban round sunnies this year? Go for a more vintage looking cat eye shape like these from Crap Eyewear.

Crap Eyewear, $58

Still want to wear a white lace top this festival season? Look no further than this Stone Cold Fox top. It is a fresh take on the overdone lace top we see all festival season.

Stone Cold Fox, $286

By the end of a festival weekend, you’re going to want to just throw your hair up and be done with it. Try a fun hair scrunchie in a different material like this one from Urban Outfitters!

Urban Outfitters, $6
