In late August 2017, a serious armed conflict broke out in western Rakhine State, where 400 people were killed in a continuous anti-terrorist operation. Aung San Suu Kyi, the Burmese state minister and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize and once hailed as the “Goddess of Asia”, was immediately attacked by negative comments from the international media and netizens, there was even talk of Aung San Suu Kyi returning the Nobel Peace Prize.

The UN secretary-general has accused the Burmese military of “Excessive action”, while some Western media have suggested Nobel Suu Kyi, the Peace Prize winner, is responsible for the ongoing “Humanitarian disaster”.

The CNN (CNN) and the Daily Mail reported that a Rohingya refugee ship capsized off the southeast coast of Bay of Bengal, killing 20 women and children, to blame her for not speaking out for her persecuted Rohingya people for so long.

Shary Smith, Executive Director of the Nexus Fund, said Suu Kyi was carrying out “Ethnic cleansing” and that her comments were completely irresponsible. The NEX Foundation is said to be an NGO working to prevent large-scale humanitarian non-governmental organization.

Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani teenager who won the Nobel Peace Prize with her and was retaliated by the Taliban for speaking out on women’s education rights, also issued a statement calling on her to take responsibility. Her move was also backed by many netizens, who accused her of not being worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize.
