Thank you for writing about this opportunity! Both the social and cultural conversation/action opportunity and the film. I am member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and I come from one of those huge families. I was raised to love everyone…in the rural Midwest, everyone is the same color, not a lot of diversity opportunities.

But when I served a mission I was assigned to the Toronto, Ontario area which is as cosmopolitan and diverse as anywhere in the world. I found out that loving everyone is a lot easier in principle than practice. Not because I didn’t love people of every walk and color but because people want and need to be loved on their own terms. I learned that, along with my love for people, I needed humility to love and accept them as they are. And I learned that I can love anyone and everyone by sharing stories/experiences, time, family and food. That doesn’t mean I agree on everything or even like everything about other people, but I love and accept them as they are and hope they love and accept me that way too.

You’re right, this is a needful conversation. One that has to be face to face, arm in arm and heart to heart. Thanks for writing this!
