124 Miles in August — Day 10: 51.6 Miles

35.6 + 16 = 51.6 (Target for day 10 = 40 Miles)

So for the past three days, I’ve walked 8 miles a day. All of these have been the following:

  1. Canary Wharf (1 mile)
  2. Up the canal and back in Uxbridge (3 miles)
  3. Uxbridge to West Drayton along the canal (3 miles)
  4. Canary Wharf to Home (1 mile)

Some notes:

  • I feel great
  • I’m starting to think that there are some benefits to spending an hour or more a day thinking wordlessly — not reading/raging on facebook and twitter, but just thinking.
  • Something seems to happen around six miles (unfortunately for busy people, that’s after two hours of walking) all the conscious thoughts seem to settle.
  • I’ve found myself fantasising about longer walks (up the Slough branch of the Grand Union to Iver — Oh yeah!).
  • If you get out and walk every day you notice the seasons, for instance you notice that, even though this is an English summer, it hasn’t rained for four or five days and so the canal paths are dusty — which is making my shoes dusty. You notice that the blackberries are getting properly ripe now. You notice a pair of swans with five cygnets in tow.

I haven’t taken many pictures — but here’s one.
