You Are The Potter, We Are The Clay”

Isaiah 64: 8

“But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.”

A Potter is one whose occupation is to make earthen vessels. This One, the Creator God of the Universe and all things, He who sits reigning on His throne who has Genesis 1 on His resume created man on the sixth day of creation out of dust in His very own image as recorded in the Word of God in Genesis 1:26–27; 2:7,

“Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them.”

“Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.”

God makes no mistakes and in His creative hand of majesty breathed His ruach breath into creating man, fearfully and wonderfully! (Psalm.139:14)

To have the realization and knowledge that in saving faith in Christ as His children we are being formed, molded and shape in a holy sanctifying work to be holy as He our Heavenly Father is Holy. The believer in Jesus has been blessed in God’s great salvation through the new birth (John 3:3) being given the gift of faith as we were created in Christ as His workmanship to do good works (Ephesians 2: 8–10) as earthen vessels of honor. In II Timothy 2:20–21 it states, “But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.”

May we be found useful divine vessels of honor redeeming the days with the heart cry of a great old hymn written in 1982 by Eddie Espinosa, “Change My Heart, O God”. May we prayerfully be yielded vessels of clay as works in progress to be on the Potter’s Wheel as He works and He forms, molds, shapes us as His divine vessels of honor doing His Kingdom works in the earth.

May the following words of the great hymn “Change My Heart, Oh God” be our prayer as we desire to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever:

“Change my heart, oh God; make it ever true. Change my heart, oh God; may I be like You.

You are the potter, I am the clay. Mold me and make me; this is what I pray.

Change my heart, oh God; make it ever true. Change my heart, oh God; may I be like You.”
