Bethany, this? This makes me sad. (And not just because it smacks of A Handmaid’s Tale in terms of recognized contributions).
Venrock also made big investments in my back yard, through the venture partners I’ve worked with for decades. And you’re right: the Missing Link is the vision, insight, perspective and coordination women (in general) bring to the table.
It would be interesting to coordinate resources to elevate the Quiet Women who have been so formative to our collective progress.
Our a Town Square is named after Esther Short, an iconic woman in my town’s history. Esther has a park named in her honor. And a plaque.
But who gets the life size bronze statue? George Probstra, one of Vancouver, Washington’s restaurant icons.
Recognition and amplification of women’s contributions, from historical textbooks to bronze icons and boardrooms. This should be the standard, not some alt story on page 9 of the Arts and Society section.
(The issue is so real, I composed this on pins and needles, never quite confident if what I’m writing is tone deaf or would cause an eye roll from a female reader. If so, I apologize in advance.)
PS. Both my daughters are leaders in my business. And they set a high bar for the men who report to them. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
