Srinivas — Not sure if you ever had a chance to see it when it was online, but @Mathew Epstein, a college grad, invested ~$3,000 in website design and content creation in order to get the attention of his target employer: Google.
So he purchases GooglePleaseHire.me, creates a killer presence (tongue in cheek but with some decent marketing plies). And this becomes his calling card.
80 firms ended up contacting him for interviews. Including Microsoft and Apple.
He flunked the Google interview. But ended up in a VC funded finance startup.
$3k is basically 1/2 month starter wage as a gofer in any Silicon Valley company. So for 2 weeks salary, he created a firestorm of personal branding and opportunity. One that landed him a dream job.
I couldn’t agree more. A website (or leveraging YouTube, Vimeo, Quora, Medium, Amazon, etc…) is the current minimum entry fee.
Here’s Matthews home page video (his site has since been archived. He’s now using the domain to generate affiliate sales via Amazon and other channels).
(P.S. Just ordered your book on Amazon. Looking forward to posting a review).
