I got banned from an art school for protesting
I am an artist. I live and work in Providence Rhode Island. Last night, I was protesting an event at Rhode Island School of Design because Gina Raimondo (the governor) was speaking. We were protesting Gina Raimondo’s continued support of the construction of a fossil fuel plant in Burrillville. This power plant would lock Rhode Island into fifty years of dirty energy when the rest of the worlds is clearly moving towards green/renewable energy. Right as the Governor’s vehicle was pulling into the event public safety officers showed up and asked me to move off RISD property. They told me to move to the sidewalk. I moved to the sidewalk. Later as I was standing on the sidewalk eating dried apricots, cops showed up and said RISD owns the sidewalk. I was given a trespassing warning. RISD clearly doesn’t care about free speech and would rather support a corporate politician hellbent on destroying the state of Rhode Island than a local artist.
