“Project DELTA at APT (Asia Pacific Telecommunity) Symposium on Cybersecurity 2018”
Project DELTA was invited to participate in the “APT Symposium on Cybersecurity 2018” that took place last September 12–14 in Seoul, South Korea. This event was hosted by the APT (Asia-Pacific Telecommunity) and sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT in Korea. Among the attendees, many government officials from the Asian-Pacific region came together and shared their opinion on information security issues.
Our CMO, Josh Choi, took part in the “Internet of Things Security” panel and explained how blockchain technology contributes to strengthening security in the IoT platforms and the underlying challenges that must be overcome to achieve this.
According to Josh, it has been reckoned that by 2030 more than 100 billion IoT devices will be manufactured. With this increase in devices, so will increase the demand for technologies that enable an effective distributed storage function and automatic transactions between devices. The reality is that the existing blockchain protocols have limited capability to process massive amounts of data instantly. Real-time transactions are critical for blockchain to play a pivotal role in the digital business; therefore, radical improvements in current governance and consensus algorithms must be implemented.
As a solution to the limitations inherent in current blockchain protocols, he explained how Project DELTA is preparing a game-changing protocol which enables real-time transactions and compatible with IoT platforms. Josh also emphasized the need for technical, policy and business solutions to ensure the benefits of blockchain and IoT are well combined and create an environment conducive to the safe trading and management of data.
Nowadays, the Project DELTA team is actively participating in global meetings and workshops to raise awareness about the benefits of blockchain technology in the Public Sector. We are also working closely with UN agencies and government institutions to build use cases in the public sector.

“프로젝트 델타, APT Symposium on Cybersecurity 2018에서 블록체인과 IoT의 결합에 대해 발표”
프로젝트 델타는 9월 12–14일 APT Symposium on Cybersecurity 2018에 초대 받아 참가하였습니다. 이자리는 APT가 주관하고 한국과학기술정보통신부가 후원하며, 아시아태평양 국가 정보통신 및 과학기술 관련 정부 관료들이 참가하여, 정보보안에 대하여 논의하는 자리입니다.
프로젝트 델타의 CMO 최지영(Josh Choi)이사는 사물인터넷 보안 (Internet of Things security) 세션 패널로 초대되어 IoT시스템에서 Security를 강화하는데 블록체인이 어떻게 기여할 수 있으며, 그러한 기여를 하기 위해 선결해야 할 과제들이 무엇인지 등에 대해서 발표하였습니다.
그는 “2030년까지 1천억여개의 IoT 디바이스가 생겨날 것으로 예상되는 가운데, IoT 디바이스가 늘어날 수록 스마트 컨트랙트를 통한 디바이스 간 자체적인 트랜잭션 기능, 데이터의 분산 저장 기능 등이 더욱 중요해질 것이며, 블록체인기술이 이러한 부분에 많은 역할을 할 것으로 기대된다” 면서도 “현재의 블록체인 프로토콜은 이러한 대용량의 데이터를 처리할 수 있는 역량이 현실적으로 여전히 부족한게 사실이다. 실시간 거래가 중요한 미래 디지털 비즈니스에서 블록체인이 제 역할을 담당하기 위해서는 현재의 거버넌스 및 합의 알고리즘에 대한 획기적인 개선안이 준비되야 한다.”고 역설하였습니다.
또한 이러한 기존 블록체인 프로토콜의 한계점을 극복하기 위한 방안으로 프로젝트 델타가 추구하는 블록체인 프로토콜에 대해 소개하면서 “IoT 환경에서 각 참여자들간의 신뢰를 구축하여 안전하게 데이터를 관리하고 거래할 수 있도록 블록체인과 IoT의 각각의 장점이 잘 융합될 수 있도록 기술적, 정책적, 비즈니스적 해결 방안을 모색해야 한다”고 강조하였습니다.
저희 프로젝트 델타팀은 위와 같은 글로벌 회의 및 워크샵에 참여하며 전세계 사용자들에게 블록체인이 확산, 사용될 수 있는 방안을 각 국 정부 관계자, 국제기구등과 함께 모색하고 있으며, 앞으로 더욱 긴밀한 협의를 통해 구체적인 사례를 구축할 수 있도록 노력할 것입니다.
