Hummm … An interesting analysis. And I think you are correct.
We could debate the absolute percentages but I do know people in both groups.
The Cognitive Dissonance of the top group lets their greed for more money override their intellect, which most have, and simply ignore the long term impact of tax cuts and income inequality.
The Cognitive Dissonance of the bottom group lets their fear for a multi-cultural America override their intellect and ignore the lack of social services and schools they and their children will need as they age.
The marketing of a “Socialist America” probably creates lots of negative emotions for both the top and bottom groups for different reasons. And both groups don’t really understand what it means and they treat the term just like somebody yelled “Snake”.
My hope is the ones in the middle are rational enough that they see what is happening and know it will not work for the long term. Maybe this rational group will be motivated to vote with logic and not greed and fear.
