Diabetes+Diabetic= Diabetariffic
The word is the word….
I don’t write much about diabetes on my Health in the Laugh Lane blog. To be honest I only mention it when I am writing about my health background. Other than that I stay quiet about it and the work that we do.
See diabetes has been a sore spot for the past two years. I walked away from the work we were doing (Patti and me) and decided after refereeing a fight during an online even between a Type 1 and Type 2 that I had enough of this crap. I don’t understand why we can’t get along. Knowing that Type 1 is totally different from Type 2 makes it easier for me to push what I want.
I believe that in order to find a cure we as diabetics need to rally around each other no matter the type which is why years ago I came up with the title Type “D”. Meaning we are all diabetic socially and we need to band together as members for Greenpeace and other organizations do. As a former founder of the East Coast Greenpeace I do know what I am talking about. I worked with them for 20 years.
The thing is socially we need to be Type “D” but medically we can be type 1, type 2 or any type you want to be. I just know that for everything to work and find a cure we need to be on one page and we’re not. There are two distinct organizations for diabetics and a host of communities to support them. From the American Diabetes Association to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). These two organizations make up the fighters for Type 2 and Type 1. The thing is the world is changing and everyone needs to understand and take that in.
It isn’t just adults being diagnosed with Type 2 now. Kids are also getting diagnosed with Type 2 and it is a challenge for Doctors to help these kids since no one was prepared for this. It wasn’t even thought of till lately. What also is new is that Type 2 isn’t just about lifestyle any longer. It has proven to be genetic in many cases also. So now there is something else to add to the mix along with issues of Type 1.
I’m not here to argue all of the differences. What I am here to do is bring everyone together through one word and one word only.
DIABETARIFFIC. I came up with this word one day when I was first diagnosed and depressed. I needed to find a way to keep my spirits up while I build a website and blog. This is the word that came to me and it worked. I decided to share this with everyone and it made some people very happy. I received email from so many people claiming to feel better just thinking or saying this word. Patti even wrote a poem about it and I will share that next time.
My goal before I lost touch with my goal was to build a community of leaders outside of the internet. A group or army so to speak of adults, kids and anyone wanting to raise awareness about diabetes and find a cure. The thing was I started to try and support diabetics through our site also and that’s when I lost the momentum to accomplish what I wanted. I wanted to build another Greenpeace only about Diabetes and I knew if I did it correctly I could do it. Well as I said I lost vision and started to support instead of build.
This time we are all aboard the grassroots wagon. I have taken my original blueprint for building Greenpeace on the East Coast and revamped it for what I want from all the diabetics out there. We need to rally for answers. We need to not be afraid to contact the researchers, the Doctors, the specialists, the government officials and the pharmaceutical companies for answers. It’s been too long without answers or a cure.
We need to take control and ask for answers. We don’t have to demand, we just have to ask in numbers.
DIABETARIFFIC is the way. Join us in the coming weeks to build this exciting organization to make a difference in this world.
If you enjoyed this post I would appreciate it if you would recommend and share it with friends. This is a movement that has been needed for a very long time and now it is here. Thanks!
