Medium It Is!
This hasn’t been an easy decision. I have spent the better part of the last 24 hours deciding which way to go and in the end Medium has won my heart.
This all started at the very beginning when I first started writing on Medium. I enjoy the experience and the interaction with readers/followers. I enjoyed everything that Medium stood for and was doing. For me it was changing the writing scene.
I don’t consider myself a prolific writer or a great writer. At best I am a good writer, but my heart is into writing. I’ve written in college and grad school for school papers and have always enjoyed either being a reporter or just a story teller.
Then came my blog on Wrodpress and I thought it was great. Loved everything Wordpress could give me except the writing experience wasn’t the same as Medium.
Now in the last few weeks I have been trying to decide between my blog on Wordpress and moving it to Medium. This isn’t a major decision since I don’t earn an income from my blog. I blog for enjoyment.
I haven’t found a great audience on Wordpress, but I do have followers. I almost went with blogging on Google Plus like some other bloggers I know, but decided to stick with Wordpress and Medium part time.
One thing that held me back till last night from using Medium 100 percent was the fear inside of rejection. I remember a year ago when I wrote a guest post for a friend. When I finished the post I sent it to him for his blog only to be told that I didn’t write eloquently enough for his blog.
His blog was about social media and I was writing about some success I had had with a former blog on Wordpress about diabetes. It grew in a matter of fourweeks to three million views. Within that four weeks those viewers came back three and four times to continue reading. Then the bottom fell out.
Well after getting rejected as I did I heard other stories from friends on G+ about being rejected from other blogs and refusing to post anymore. That’s when I started the community on G+ called The Imperfect Writers of G+, click on this link for a post on Medium that relates to this.
The concept for the community was not to foster imperfect writing, but to give a writer who may be imperfect a safe place to discuss how to become a better writer with others that are in the same league or better.
The community has grown and it has helped launch some the writing of a few closet bloggers and for that I am happy. It even helped me to be a better writer and helped in dealing with criticism.
When Medium announced publications instead of collections the first thing I thought of was building a publication for the Imperfect Writers of G+ community here on Medium. I didn’t know how the editors of MEdium would feel about that, but it was a thought.
Now that I see Ev Williams thoughts for the future of Medium I can see where a publication like this would benefit Medium in bringing new writers to this beautiful platform and open the doors for some great writers who deserved to be read.
My blog It’s All Misheogss is a publication on here and I plan to change the face and content of it drastically to fulfill my dream for this blog. It just is going to take some reinventing of the machine.
I owe the last few blog posts of Jonas Ellison and some of the readers of my last few posts with helping me in making this decision.
I am looking forward to turning out good if not, great content for readers on Medium to follow and enjoy now and into the future.
Thanks Ev for making this platform what it is and will be.
