Reading this great post brought back some fond memories of high school in the 70's.
Yup, that’s right, I’m old, but “chill” was a very big part of my vocabulary and lifestyle.
In sports it was used to tell an opponent to chill from starting a fight in hockey (I played) and soccer. Sometimes even in baseball when the benches would empty (I sis that also).
Chill on a Saturday is what my girlfriend and I did to get away form school work. Maybe it meant to chill in the park or chill at one of our houses.
It never meant don’t hold me or care about me. It never meant I had no personality. If anything, it meant I cared and knew what was going on.
It meant I wanted us to been together without homework. It meant to be together so we could talk, care and wonder.
Chill was what kids in my day wanted to do as much as possible with their girl and friends.
When we chilled it was affairs to write about on Monday in Creative Writing class. It gave us speaking material for Public Speaking classes in school.
Chill was the thing and we wanted it in our lives.
