I agree with the premise, even though there were some hidden gems that the author missed.

McConaughey is actually best as part of an ensemble where he can add to a larger story without bearing the burden of carrying it.

Remember the now cult-classic “Tropic Thunder” where he played Stiller’s agent?

That type of role is where I think he shines best.

Of course, we could make the case for Tom Cruise as Les Grossman as well, right?

I’m not sure that McConaughey was ever really interested in authenticity, not in the way most people define the word anyway. He wanted to cash in on the idea of authenticity, but was he really authentic when he was driving the Lincoln MKX over the “empty” freeways of Austin?

Hardly.

Not only would that never happen in real life (Austin is overcrowded), but I sincerely doubt that he ever drove a Lincoln before he was getting paid to do so.

Authentic or just playing the game like every other celebrity we know?
