Sorry to rain on your parade, Justin, but you’ve glossed over some rather pertinent facts along the way…
Being that I was living during the 90’s rap era, I remember Jay-Z more for this: https://youtu.be/emlDKySa8GE
Lest we forget that Jay-Z is a fraud. He stole his style and namesake from Jaz-O and then rode the coattails of better rappers who happened to die during the late nineties, which precipitated Jay-Z’s ascension to pop stardom.
People who were there during that time knew Jay-Z was a phony.
Tupac said as much….and that was way back in ‘96.
Remember when David Letterman confronted Jay-Z about the fact that he stole his style and flow from Big Jaz-O?
I never liked Jay-Z’s sloppy flow and what does he actually talk about that’s culturally relevant?
From a purist’s POV, it pained me to see rap music die a slow death.
People like Tupac, Biggie, Big Pun, Big L died so we could be graced by the likes of Jay-Z, Eminem, 50 Cent and all the rest.
Reality used to be a friend of mine,
’Cause complete control, I don’t take too kind.
