‘No’ is a double edged sword and both sides need to be respected.

I respect your opinion and see why you say so. It is a word of great power, indeed. However, there are different people, different situations and different reasons people say ‘no’. Some of them are afraid, others are not willing to go extra mile, someone can be just not interested enough.

I love the second story here: as you see, Kanbei decided to ask once again (in a very respectful tone!) and when he got ‘no’ for the second time, he realised that it was definite ‘no’, as you said it. I’ve just noticed that he still was asking twice, just to be sure, and that is an interesting example for me.
