I thinks also plays into the hands of those who tout the “Prosperity Gospel.” If you see liberal-leaning people on TV who are generally all of a certain class, it reiterates the notion that only (or mostly) successful people matter or that God wants it that way — for wealth, influence and opportunity to come enmeshed.

Then, it’s only matter of degrees of prosperity (as we see on entertainment TV quite a lot), not a small number of haves, a 20% buffer zone of a shrinking Middle Class and a whole lot of “have-nots.”
