Week One of 2016

The gyms are jammed and Jenny Craig has a big smile on her face as the New Year begins.

As we close out the first week of 2016 have you stuck to your action plan? Have you even created your daily, weekly, monthly action plans? Goal setting will provide you with massive results if you stick with your selected modifications. Problem is we tend to overwhelm ourselves with the desire to be done. When the results are not as immediate as the drive up window at Dunkin’, we get disillusioned. But in the first week of a new habit you will falter and that is good! When we recognize that we came up a bit short in our attempts to reach the goals we have set it is the time to say “Oh boy” not “aww forget it.” Once we know that we missed a segment of our strategy to reach our goal, it is this acknowledgement of failure that reminds us that the goal is in the forefront of our thoughts. It is the perseverance beyond the speed bump that yields the result.

When changing or adopting a new behavior it takes time and small victories built upon that will yield the results that you want. That is the reasoning behind chunking up your goals into manageable pieces. When wanting to lose weight, focus daily food intake and weekly results from the effort. The trip to dropping 100 pounds is taken 2 pounds at a time. The same method is used to learn a new skill or create a new habit.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. –Lao Tzu
