Yes, unfortunately. I still think some are working in the background either to keep the nation together while Trump is dealt with and/or working with our intel agencies to thwart Trump’s pro Putin moves.
For example, Rubio’s working on Trump to re-instate a modified Cuban embargo goes hand in hand with his convincing Trump to start working on the Venezuela issue. You likely know this but Venezuela is closely connected to Rosneft, which is closely connected to Putin. Rubio’s playing dominoes while helping his constituents’ families in Venezuela and Cuba. Any potential for Rubio to impact either of those policies would have been trashed if he had continued to oppose Trump as vocally as he had been before deciding to run again for his Senate seat.
Then, there’s Speaker Ryan. Before the primaries got geared up Ryan was promoting the BetterWay agenda of the House. The key component of it is reining in the Executive Branch and returning legislative power back to Congress where it belongs and/or the states where it’s closer to the people. He had to be forced to endorse Trump but once he knew we weren’t going to be able to force him out before the convention he rearranged his agenda to work it on a longer trajectory than he would have had to if he had gotten a more conservative POTUS. Or, since Trump ran to the left of HRC on some issues, if he had had Hillary to either work with or against.
I have other examples, but that’s my two most prominent ones. I have to say that Trump as POTUS has brought about one good thing: Meeting some great people I might not have met under other circumstances. :-)
