Movie Madness : Loving

Interracial couple Richard and Mildred Loving (Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga) grew up in a small Virginia town where they eventually fell in love. Although their hometown was more integrated than much of the South was back then, they weren’t allowed to get married in their own state. So they traveled to Washington, D.C. to marry in 1958. They returned to Virginia with the hopes of building a home and raising a family, only to discover that they were not welcome there anymore. They were hauled off to jail and ultimately banished from their beloved home state.

Richard and Mildred moved to the inner city of Washington, D.C., where they started raising a family. But they were unhappy there, and they both longed to return to the country setting of Virginia, where they were both born and raised. But moving back to Virginia meant traveling on an uncertain road, filled with fear (as well as hope) for the future. ‘Loving’ takes an honest, sensitive look at the early days of the Civil Rights movement and how one couple’s real-life story quietly went on to make history.

‘Loving’ this movie…and the amazing story that inspired it. :)
