Movie Madness : The Danish Girl

“The Danish Girl” is loosely based on the love story between Danish painters Einar Wegener (Eddie Redmayne) and his wife Gerda (Alicia Vikander). The story unfolds in Copenhagen in 1926. Einar slowly begins to realize that he doesn’t feel comfortable in his own body. He disguises himself as a woman (named Lili Elbe), and from then on his feelings about himself slowly change. But even through all the confusion and self-doubt, his loving wife supports him and remains by his side. After seeking help from several doctors, he prepares to undergo one of the first sex-change operations.

It’s hard to imagine someone trying to deal with all of this long before it was understood. But fortunately for Einar, his wife and another close friend want nothing more than to help him become the person he so desperately longs to be. “The Danish Girl” is a touching story told with compassion and an open mind. And it’s definitely a story worth telling. :)
