I agree with so much of this, though for any readers who haven’t found their right balance yet, I’d say that it’s also important to be careful not to get sucked into a productivity-based creative philosophy (which could even be seen as ableist), or to see creation and consumption as the only two options.

Times of rest and reflection are vital to wellbeing, productivity, and creativity, too. And putting self-care and self-awareness first leads naturally to inspiration and the urge to create.

Without this foundation to balance us we turn to consumption not because we are lazy, but we are legitimately not well enough to achieve or sustain the state of creative flow. Maybe we don’t see ourselves as a creative person, so why bother? – Not because we aren’t creative at heart, but don’t realize we are just blocked. So we plug in and zap our brains with stuff that keeps our brains too exhausted for real creativity indefinitely.

So yes, I definitely agree with daily creative sessions! And I do think creativity should take priority over consumption. But we must be mindful and compassionate about it.
