Dancing in the space of the browser
Instructions:
- When you load the page, the browser will prompt you to allow access to your camera. Please grant the necessary permissions to proceed.
- Press the ‘p’ key to toggle between playing and pausing the song.
- Press the ‘r’ key to start recording video.
- Press the ‘s’ key to stop the ongoing video recording.
- Press the ‘t’ key to pause the ongoing video recording.
- Press the ‘d’ key to download the recorded video file.
Note: Ensure that you have a working webcam connected to your device for the video recording functionality.
Concept, programming and performance by Marlon Barrios Solano
In SoftSpaces, I perform a classic video processing algorithm that uses the webcam input as a source and the browser as a performance space, as a space for embodied awareness. The space of the frame is choreographed and remapped; it become a space for a dance. I play with the cognitive continuity of motion, dance, software, interface design and embodiment in the interaction.
The computer recomposes time and space creating and generating new space-time loops and rhythms. Pachebel’s canon in D is offered as a context for image re-composition with repetitions, juxtapositions and counterpoints.
Programmed in P5.js to run in the browser, the user can play the music, record video and sound and download the video.
It is conceived as a web work, as an online/offline performance and as an installation.
