10 Things to do in Juneau Alaska

Nestled in the southeastern corner of Alaska among the islands and glaciers that make up most of the coastline, lies a small but important town called Juneau. Founded in 1881, this quaint town serves as Alaska’s capital. Completely cut off from other parts of Alaska, the only way to travel to Juneau is by plane or boat. The most popular way to visit Juneau is by cruise ship. When visiting in this fashion, you have limited time to see everything that you would like. With limited time to see everything it can be overwhelming to not have a plan. Here are 10 things to do in Juneau Alaska. While it would be difficult to do all of these in one day, this is a list of the top things I enjoy when visiting Juneau.

Rent a Car

I arrived in Juneau by cruise ship. When planning my visit, it appeared to be feasible to rent a car for the day that the ship arrived. We reserved the car a few days before the departure date from Seattle. Once we arrived in Juneau, it was but a short walk from the pier to the rental car lot. Once we started driving around town it became clear that we had made an awesome decision. It takes about 45 minutes to get to Point Bridge State Park which is at the far end of Glacier Highway. This is about as far as you can drive to the northwest. The road only goes a few miles to the south of Juneau. There are many sights to see along Glacier Highway…
